Sunshine Peacock
Sunshine Peacock - Aulonocara baenschi "Benga"
The Sunshine Peacock (Aulonocara sp.) is a vibrant addition to your aquarium. Known for its striking yellow and blue hues, this African cichlid boasts radiant colors that make it a standout in any tank. With a generally peaceful temperament and a manageable size of up to 6 inches, the Sunshine Peacock is perfect for both novice and experienced aquarists. It thrives in well-maintained environments and on a balanced diet.
Male vs Female Coloration:
Male Sunshine Peacocks display vibrant yellow and blue colors, often with iridescent patterns, while females are generally less colorful with more subdued hues.
Behavior and Tank Requirements:
The Sunshine Peacock is relatively peaceful but can be territorial, especially among similar males or if females are around. To mitigate aggression, provide ample line-of-sight blocks such as rocks or plants to break the line of sight and create territories. Include hiding spots like caves or dense vegetation for fish to retreat if needed. If breeding is desired, it's suggested to keep one male with several females to distribute aggression.
Compatibility:
Avoid aggressive or similarly colored tankmates that may provoke conflicts. Suitable tankmates include other peaceful cichlids from Lake Malawi, such as other Aulonocara species and some Haplochromis species.
