Dragon Blood x Cherry Red OB Peacock – Aulonocara sp.

These Dragon Blood x Cherry Red OB Peacocks are part of Top Shelf Animals' new breeding project, selectively bred in-house from a Dragon Blood and Cherry Red OB. This first-generation batch displays a wide range of reds, oranges, and unique patterning, making each fish one of a kind. Some develop a more solid Dragon Blood appearance, while others may inherit subtle OB traits. (In this batch, the OB traits are more recessive, but if you choose to breed them yourself, you can enhance that patterning through selective breeding.)

Behavior and Tank Requirements

Like other Aulonocara species, these Peacocks are relatively peaceful (5/10) compared to many African cichlids and do well in a community of Haps and Peacocks. However, males may show territorial behaviour, especially during breeding. To minimize aggression, provide plenty of rock structures and open swimming areas.

Key Tank Setup:

• Substrate: Fine sand or aragonite/crushed coral (preferred over gravel)
• Hiding Spots: Rock formations and caves for territory establishment
• Open Space: A balance of structure and swimming room helps maintain harmony

Compatibility

These Peacocks do best with other peaceful to semi-aggressive Malawi cichlids, such as Peacocks and Haps. Avoid housing them with Mbunas, as their aggressive nature can cause stress.
