Ice Berg Fryeri
Ice Berg Fryeri
Iceberg Fryeri
Iceberg Fryeri, scientifically known as Sciaenochromis fryeri, is a striking and popular African cichlid originating from Lake Malawi. This man made strain is characterized by its electric blue coloration with a distinctive white blaze, which varies slightly among males due to their man-made hybridization. In nature, Sciaenochromis fryeri is found throughout the lake in rocky habitats where they feed on small mbuna and other aquatic animals.
Behavior and Tank Requirements:
Iceberg Fryeri are generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behavior, especially among males. They thrive in aquariums with ample swimming space and minimal hiding spots. Provide line-of-sight breaks with rocks and plants to create territories and reduce aggression. This setup mimics their natural rocky habitat and encourages natural behaviors.
Feeding Habits:
As omnivorous fish, Iceberg Fryeri should be offered a varied diet. Include high-quality flakes, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp or mysis shrimp to maintain their health and enhance their coloration.
Compatibility:
Avoid housing Iceberg Fryeri with aggressive or overly territorial tankmates (Not suggested with mbuna). They coexist well with other peaceful cichlid species from Lake Malawi, such as other Aulonocara species and some Haplochromis species, ensuring compatibility in size and temperament.
