Ngara Flametail Peacock
Ngara Flametail Peacock
Ngara Flametail Peacock (Aulonocara stuartgranti "Ngara")
The Ngara Flametail Peacock is a stunning smaller species of peacock cichlid, prized for its deep metallic blue body accented by vibrant yellow-orange coloring that extends along the body and into the tail fin. With proper care and patience, this peacock will become one of the most colorful fish in your tank, especially as the males mature beyond 3 inches, when their bright orange hues start to emerge and contrast beautifully against the deep blue.
Male vs Female Coloration:
Males are known for their brilliant blue coloration with striking yellow-orange accents along the body and tail. Females, like many peacock species, are less colorful, generally appearing in muted grays and browns.
Behavior and Tank Requirements:
The Ngara Flametail Peacock is relatively mild-mannered, though slightly territorial toward conspecifics, especially other males. It does best in tanks with peaceful species of similar size. Provide a tank with plenty of swimming space, rock formations, and hiding spots to ensure comfort and reduce stress.
Compatibility:
The Ngara Flametail thrives when housed with other peaceful peacocks, such as Chitande, Huseri, and Kandeense. It is important to avoid keeping them with aggressive species like Mbunas, as they may provoke stress or aggression. Instead, pair them with similarly tempered peacocks and Haps.
